Gone are the days when visitors could just show up to the popular site and buy tickets right there. Online booking is now one of the only options available (as well as a few local ticket offices) if you’re interested in visiting this amazing Incan citadel located high in the Andes Mountains. When Can You Visit Machu Picchu? Visitors can experience Machi Picchu 365 days of the year. In the past, when booking online, you were given the choice to purchase a morning ticket or an afternoon ticket, which gave you some flexibility depending on when you arrived. But now you have to choose the exact hour you wish to enter, which means you need to find reliable transportation to the site in order to show up on time. First entry begins at 6:00AM, and last entry is 2:00PM. The site closes at 5:30PM. How Many Tickets Are Available? The government allots 5,600 tickets to be sold each day. This covers entry to the main site, but does not include any additional mountain hikes. (More on hikes below.) This allotment is divided up throughout the day, as a way to avoid overcrowding at any one time. The breakdown is as follows: 6:00AM, 7:00AM, and 8:00AM have 800 tickets each; 9:00AM has 560; 10:00AM and 11:00AM has 600 each; 12:00PM has 360; 1:00PM and 2:00PM has 540 each.
