FAQ

We are a fully licensed agency that complies by the Peruvian Law. Apart from the formalities we are dedicated to changing the perception of tourism in Perú.

If you’re having trouble choosing a company this little pointer might help. There are over 100 Peruvian tour companies that operate in Cusco. All of these companies have been awarded licenses to operate the Inca Trail. Only Peruvian owned companies are allowed to operate with this license. Therefore, even if you buy your trek with a company in your own country it won't actually be operated by them. Even once you book, all Inca trails follow the same path to Machu Picchu.

When we have finalized plans for your trip you should send us a completed Booking Form with a deposit. When we have received this we will proceed with actual reservations. If there is no availability for the dates you have requested we will let you know, and try and make alternative arrangements. This is usually just a matter of changing the order of your itinerary or substituting hotels with those of a similar standard, although you should bear in mind that at certain times of year hotels and flights are often fully booked well in advance.
We will then send you a summary of the status of your bookings with a Confirmation Invoice, The final payment or balance will have to be paid at your arrival to Lima or Cusco where we meet to begin the tour. We will also send you general pre-departure information which includes any health or visa requirements. Around 2 weeks before departure, and after we have received the Deposit  payment, we will send you a detailed itinerary with comprehensive instructions and useful background information.

Travellers arrive from all over the world to begin our tours and as such it is not possible to include international airfare in our prices, we recommend that you search online for best rates and we also provide links to some online travel agents.

The weather is always fresh in Cusco and especially in the mountains. The seasons changing throughout the year are not very evident, it is however possible to distinguish two well-defined seasons: the rainy season (November to March) and the dry season (April to October).

The average temperature in the city is about 11 - 19 degrees Celsius at day. At night the temperature gets even colder. If your in the mounting hiking, be sure to take some warm layers of clothes.

Inka trail climate - Varies along the length of the trail. During the first 2 days it can get quite warm with the sun out and a little dry. We use your deposit to pay official fees when making your official reservation. For example, we need to pay tourist and porters entrance fees and taxes (19%). We also use it towards your return rail tickets.

We recommend that you have a good fitness level. You do not have to be a fitness fanatic, but at least know what you are going to be undertaking and prepare as best you can.
One important step to your well being is that you acclimatise well in Cusco prior to your trek. Cusco lies at 3,350m/10900ft. We recommend a stay of at least 2-3 days. To help with acclimatisation we recommend:

  • Avoid over-exerting yourself when you first arrive
  • Drink lots of fluids
  • Avoid cigarettes and alcohol
  • Avoid taking sleeping pills
  • Drink coca tea (ancient traditional leaf)

Yes – we can do this for you! It is an additional $50 per person in order to “close” a group. This is a nice way for a family or group of friends to enjoy their Inca Trail Experience!

We have operated many family groups with children as young as 7 years old – we would not recommend your child is younger than this! The children that have done the trail with us have all being children that are used to walking long hours having done some hikes before, so this is an essential element for us know if your child is physically fit for the challenge!
We never accept a booking just for the sake of a booking!

Due to regulations brought in 2002, the Inca Trail (7 via Salkantay, 5, 4 or 2 days) is limited to 500 people per day (including guides, porters and cooks). It is therefore necessary to book in advance to guarantee a place on the date you want to leave. For Inca Trail treks in the high season (May, June, July, August and September) it is advisable to book at least 5 months ahead.
