Cusco is situaded at an altitude of 3,400m/11,150ft. The city of Cusco is world famous due to the numerous archaeological sites left by the ancient Inca culture, built over 500 years ago. Cusco is the gateway to one of the most spectacular archaeological sites that exists in South America, the lost city of the Incas Machu Picchu, with its imposing Inca architectural setting, nestled amidst mountains and deep canyons. On the city tour of Cusco, you will see interesting places within the city of Cusco like the Koricancha (Inca Sun Temple), and the imposing Inca ruins at Sacsayhuaman and Tambomachay.

The best way to visit every archaeological, cultural and leisure place in Cusco City is using the tourist ticket issued by the Municipality. The Tourist Ticket has two established routes. The first one in the Partial Ticket and includes the Sacsayhuaman Ruins, Qenqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay. The second route is the General Tourist Ticket that allows entrance to the galleries of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Cusco’s Municipality, the Museum of Regional History, the Coricancha Site Museum, the Museum of Popular Art and Qosqo native Art Center. With this ticket you can also enter the Pachacuteq Monument, the Sacsayhuaman Ruins, Qenko, Puca Pucara, Tambomachay, Tipon and Pikillaqta, Finally, if the visitor would like to tour the Sacred Valley of the Incas, they can also go to Pisac, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero.

Itinerary: Cusco City Tour

– The guide picks up you from your hotel to start the excursion discovering the mystery of the
Cathedral, Qoricancha (Temple of the Sun).

From Qoricancha your group will walk down Avenida El Sol, where you will take your bus to climbup and just outside of the city. The 25 minute drive takes you to the majestic Inka site Sacsayhuaman with its enigmatic monoliths weighing as much as 200 tons. Your guide will offer an explanation of this phenomenal site and you will have extra time to do a bit of exploring on your own.

From Sacsayhuaman it is a 5 minute bus ride to Q’enqo Inka site with its fascinating Inkan altars, then another 5 minute drive to Puca Pucara, a small, circular Inka site. The final stop on our tour is Tambomachay, a water temple thought to be used by the Inka for bathing, with its impressive water fountains. We’ll then drive back down to Cusco where the tour ends in the main square, unless you are taking a private tour, in which case we will return you to your hotel.

  • Tourist ticket: 70 soles for the 4 Inca sites (If you are also doing the Sacred Valley tour, it is actually better to purchase the 10-day tourist ticket which is 130 soles total (which gives you access to other sites in the Sacred Valley and some museums and attractions in Cusco and is good for 10 days)
